How It Works
For
reliability two communication methods are used to send alerts:
In Wealthlab,
email alerts are setup in Tools, Options, Email.
Alerts
generated by the analysis software are send to <yourmobilephonenumber>
@ esendex.net. The Esendex service transmits the email as an SMS to
your mobile phone. It costs about $0.25 per message.
The desktop
(scanning) PC also dials a number direct when an alert is generated in
Wealthlab. This number can trigger a pager alert or call a second
mobile phone (which should be with another service provider).
Of course
for use overseas the communication services used must have global
roaming enabled.
A Laptop,
Desktop PC or Pocket Windows PDA logged into the GotoMyPC website
remotely controls the host desktop PC. Unlike other remote control
products such as PCAnywhere, GotoMypC remote does not have to be
installed on a hard disk. Rather when logging into the GotoMyPC
website, a small, memory resident only applet is loaded on the PC. One
option available works even on most internet kiosks, internet café and
hotel business centre PCs and does not require any changes to
firewalls.
Trade orders
can be placed using any internet connected PC to control the trading
software (using the remote control software ) installed on the host PC
or directly from the Laptop . GotoMyPC is available as a service for
about U$180/year.
Vodafone
Mobile Connect uses a mobile phone on a card to establish a wireless
connection in any area with mobile phone coverage. The speed varies on
the service available in the local area from fixed line modem speed to
broadband speed. The VMC card plugs into the usual laptop expansion
slot. Cost varies from $29.95 / month (100Mbytes) to $99.95 / month
(Unlimited).
Where VMC
coverage is patchy, a dial up connection, internet cafe, hotel
business centre or internet kiosk can be used. The broker's trading
software does not have to be installed on these PCs The standard
browser can be used to remotely control the Desktop scanning PC with
the broker's trading software.
For
reliability a backup internet connection using another service
provider and communications type is recommended (For example cable and
dial up or wireless and adsl).
It is also
possible to remotely control power to the desktop real time scanning
equipment so that it can be completely reset in case of PC or
communications hang up.
